2) PEER REVIEW (JEANNE)
Employment-at-will means I can be let go at my work place at any given time for no explaination at all as long as it was not illegal. Just out of the blue.
I do not agree with this because I would like to know what I did wrong. I will not get a chance to prove myself, but I will have closeure and not wonder what I did to cause my dismissal. It also can help me better myself for my next job.
The hiring process in the workforce I feel is good. There are a lot of protection acts in place for people trying to get a job. You have to be fair in hiring. You can not discriminate people while hiring them. Ex. hiring or chosing not to hire someone with a disability.
“The ADA is intended, among other things, to protect the rights of people with disabilities to obtain gainful employment, and it forbids employers from discriminating against employees or job applicants with disabilities when making employment decisions,” (Shaw, 20130101).

3) PEER REVIEW (YAUN)
Hello Professor and class:
Employment-at-will is between employers and employees there are no contracts. Employers can fire employees with no reason, and employees can quit any time for any reason without advance notice. I do not agree with this principle. Because as employees it is not secured, they may be got fire at any time, plus the employers are not required to pay unemployment compensation benefit. It is also dangerous especially to the small business. It will cause the employees to lack the responsibility, they can quit any time for any reason, like other company pays a high salary, or they are not happy with the job environment. Small business always needs to seek for employees, it hard to keep their business stable.
To work at a large organization, some of the job request to have workplace testing. To apply a secretary position requires to pass the typing test, to apply a cafeteria manager need to pass a restaurant ServSafe test to get a certification and also a different level of manager skill test. I don’t think that is a fair hiring practice. First of all, the manager skill tests are not always update, so the information could be out of date which is not applicable to the job knowledge anymore. Second, current employees will be more comfortable to pass the test than someone on the street. Third, as a manager applicant, you must pass the test to be eligible. However, the supervisor level above the manager is not required to pass any of these tests. If the workplace testing helps to determine an applicant’s job knowledge, skill and suitability, why the same leadership team positions treated differently.
