As this week’s lecture and text point out, newborn infants & developing babies have a remarkable set of capacities that are crucial for survival and for evoking adult attention and care. • Think about the implications for infants that are NOT born with this same set of capacities….that may NOT evoke the same responses from adults. What are the implications? (For example the infant that is blind that doesn’t make eye contact; the deaf infant that doesn’t respond to the mother’s cooing; the infant with cognitive impairments that doesn’t achieve expected accomplishments) • How might early intervention help to promote more positive responses between parent and infant?
